Giving Back to the Department of Philosophy

online gift

Every gift to the WVU Department of Philosophy is important. By building a strong network of alumni, friends and parents who are annual contributors, the Department is able to provide scholarships, services, programs and enhanced facilities for our students. Collectively, hundreds of individual gifts allow the WVU Department of Philosophy to carry on the tradition of excellence at West Virginia University.

What Are Our Priorities?

The WVU Philosophy Department attracts some of the best students at WVU. Thanks to the generosity of friends and alumni of the department, we have substantial scholarships available to reward and nurture the accomplishments of our extraordinary students. Your gift can ensure that we are able to continue to attract the best students, and offer them support in their studies.

Daniel B. Purinton Scholarship
The Department of Philosophy awards up to three Daniel Boardman Purinton Scholarships each year to outstanding philosophy majors who are in their junior or senior year.

McKay-Coast Scholarship
The Department awards two McKay Coast Scholarships each year to philosophy majors who show great academic promise. This scholarship is currently worth $1000.
